Opus
Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 17, 2026
This policy describes how the Opus mobile app (“Opus,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information. Opus is a daily-word game for iPhone: you can host a five-letter word, share it, and solve words other people host.
By creating an account or using Opus, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide and information created when you use the app:
- Account. Email address and password, stored by Firebase Authentication, so you can sign in, reset a password, and delete your account.
- Profile. Optional display name, optional puzzle title, and the timezone used to decide when “today” rolls over. We also store a unique user ID from our authentication provider.
- User content. Words you set, play results (guess count, win or loss, optional name on the board), and leaderboard entries for puzzles you host or play.
- Device and links. When someone opens a shared puzzle, the app or App Clip receives the link needed to load that puzzle. If you program an NFC tag, the tag stores only that link.
- Optional images. If you use optional features that let you add custom images, those files are stored with your account.
We do not ask for your precise location. We do not collect payment card details. Opus does not include a third-party advertising SDK.
How we use information
We use this information to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Run today’s puzzle, the week queue, stats, and the leaderboard
- Let you share a QR code, a link, or an NFC tag so others can play
- Let you play puzzles other people have shared
- Provide account recovery, customer support, and security
- Understand and fix product issues
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your information to show you third-party ads.
How we share information
Puzzle words, titles, and leaderboard names are visible to anyone who opens a link, QR code, or tag you share. Email addresses are not shown on the puzzle.
We share information with service providers who help us operate Opus. Infrastructure is provided by Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage). Those providers process data on our behalf, under their own terms and privacy policies, and may store data on servers outside your country, including in the United States.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights or safety of Opus or others, or in connection with a merger, sale, or transfer of assets, where permitted.
Retention and deletion
We keep account and puzzle data while your account is active. You can delete your account in the app (Studio → Delete Account). That removes your Firebase Authentication user, profile, puzzle data, and uploaded images that we store for the app.
Copies may remain for a limited time in backups or logs. Content you already shared (for example, a word someone else played) may remain visible to people who have the link until that data is removed as part of deletion.
Your choices
- You can skip optional profile fields (display name, puzzle title).
- You can play as Guest without putting a name on the board.
- You can choose not to upload images.
- You can delete your account at any time from Studio.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, use the support contact on the App Store listing for Opus.
Children
Opus is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us using the App Store listing and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard services (including Firebase Authentication) to protect accounts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a unique password and do not share it.
Do not sell or share
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you are a California resident, you may still contact us to exercise rights available under state law.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Opus after an update means you accept the revised policy.
